The City of Indianola on Tuesday, February 10, launched a redesigned version of its official website – www.indianolaiowa.gov – aimed to help make accessing City information easier, faster and more user-friendly.
Beginning in June 2025, the City partnered with its website vendor, CivicPlus, to redesign the site using analytics, industry best practices and community feedback. The project focused on improving how information is found and used across multiple devices.
“Our goal was to create a refreshed design that serves the community effectively while meeting the updated web content accessibility regulations required for local governments,” said Communications Manager Aaron Young. “The process centered on listening to feedback from stakeholders and analyzing the many uses of the City’s website by different audience types. From there, our internal team, guided by the expertise of CivicPlus, worked diligently to deliver a cleaner, more modern design that simplifies navigation and makes information and services readily available.”
A public survey conducted June 18-July 11, 2025, played a key role in shaping the redesign. Responses highlighted key features such as simpler navigation, an improved mobile experience and better search functionality. The new design and integrations implemented prioritizes ADA compliance, so content is usable for all individuals with clarity and ease.
“That is a shared commitment among all City departments as we serve the needs of our community,” Young said. “In alignment with our mission and values, we will continue to place an emphasis on creating and managing digital content that’s accurate, timely and accessible so every citizen can easily engage with their city.”
Along with the City website redesign, the Indianola Public Library department webpage – www.indianolaiowa.gov/library – has a refreshed look that now maintains a cohesive digital framework within the City’s layout structure.
“We recognized changes were necessary,” Young said. “Analytics have consistently shown us that the Indianola Public Library is among the most visited pages on the City of Indianola website. In the past, it had operated almost like a separate site within the City website, which often led to confusion and didn’t deliver the best experience for users and staff. The timing with this process was an ideal opportunity to support the library’s own distinct presence that still highlights the many great community services it offers but also establishes our organization with consistency in our overall site design.”
Visitors are invited to explore the redesigned website and share feedback as improvements continue over the coming weeks. Updates will be made regularly to refine content and usability.
