To prepare for lowering temperatures and harsh weather conditions, the Indianola Parks & Recreation Department has started its annual process of closing restrooms and winterizing water lines throughout the City’s parks system beginning Monday, October 16, 2023.

Electricity and water will be shut off at park shelters, restrooms will be closed and the water fountains at both Buxton Park and the Dog Park will soon be turned off and winterized. The campground at Pickard Park has closed for the season.

As a reminder, Indianola's city parks are open for year-round enjoyment, with only restrooms and electricity at the shelters available from mid-April through mid-October each year.

The City of Indianola operates a vibrant, dynamic park system for the enjoyment of area residents and visitors. The system is comprised of 14 parks totaling more than 255 acres of green space, which includes:
  1. Barker Park
  2. Buxton Park
  3. Dayton Park
  4. DeNelsky Park
  5. Downey Memorial Park
  6. Easton Park
  7. McCord Park
  8. McVay & Summerset Trail Head
  9. Memorial Park
  10. Moats Park
  11. Pickard Park
  12. Sesquicentennial Park
  13. South Park
  14. Willow Creek Totlot

Several parks access Indianola’s trail system as well.
