Square Reconstruction (Streetscape) Petition Dismissed
At its meeting on June 7, the State Appeal Board (SAB) unanimously dismissed the petition brought against the City of Indianola earlier in May regarding the Square Reconstruction (Streetscape) project. This project, which will replace sewer lines and water mains that are 70 to more than 100-years-old and undersized for modern-day standards, will officially break ground on Monday, June 14. The press release on the dismissal may be found via the link below.
Square Reconstruction (Streetscape) Starts June 14
The Square Reconstruction Project is scheduled to begin Phase 1 on Monday, June 14. Phase 1 includes the areas of West Salem Avenue, between B Street and Howard Street, as well as North Buxton Street, between West Salem Avenue and West Ashland Avenue. On the morning of June 14, the roads included in Phase 1 will be closed to traffic and a temporary construction fence will be erected between the sidewalk and streets, allowing for pedestrian traffic to continue on the sidewalks in Phase 1. Once street construction is completed, sidewalk construction will begin. Access to all businesses will be maintained throughout the project. It is anticipated that Phase 1 construction will be completed by mid-November. Additional information on the project may be found via the provided link.
The Chamber of Commerce and City will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, June 14. This event will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Salem and Buxton. An Invitation for the event may be found via the provided link.
The City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16 at the new Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) site to tour the progress. The meeting agenda, which includes the address, may be found via the link.
Storm Sewer and Sanitary Sewer Maintenance
During the month of May, the City’s Water Pollution Control department cleaned and televised 4,972 feet of sanitary sewers and 4,147 feet of storm sewers. This maintenance work is extremely important to ensure these systems work efficiently and in a fiscally responsible and environmentally safe manner.
East Iowa Avenue Project
The contractor for this project completed underground work, utility installation, and mainline paving of East Iowa Avenue and North 17th Street. Paving the intersection of East Iowa and North 15th, constructing the pedestrian trail connection, and installing the new street lighting are the next areas of focus. The total construction cost is $914,143.50, with half of this cost funded by a Federal Economic Development Grant. This project has a completion date of September 30, 2021, and must be substantially completed before July 27 in advance of the National Balloon Classic.
