[ARCHIVED] Recap: Indianola City Council Meets Monday, November 3

The Indianola City Council held a regular meeting at on Monday, November 3.

Among the items that Council approved during the regular meeting were:

  • The adoption of an ordinance amending the municipal code of the City of Indianola, Iowa for change of zoning district boundaries from the R-2, single family residential attached zoning district and C-2, highway commercial zoning district to the R-2, single family residential attached zoning district (Leonard Subdivision Plat 2 Lot 6).
  • The adoption of an ordinance amending the Code of Ordinances of the City of Indianola, Iowa, by amending provisions pertaining to public hearing requirements – zoning.
  • A proposal from Hodges Farms and Dredging, LLC for biosolids land application.
  • Contracts with The Shredder - MedShred for medical waste disposal services.
  • A preliminary plat for Pickard Estates.

Council Honors Indianola Boys’ Cross Country State Champions

At the start of the meeting, the Indianola City Council proudly recognized the Indianola High School boys' cross country team, which was recently crowned Class 4A state champions. This remarkable achievement marks the team’s first state title since 1972, a historic moment for the school and the community.

Mayor Steve Richardson and Council members welcomed the team and coaching staff to City Hall, where they were honored for their dedication, perseverance and outstanding performance.

Congratulations to the athletes, coaches and supporters who made this championship possible. Your hard work and team spirit have made Indianola proud!

November 4-11 Proclaimed Operation Green Light for Veterans Week

Additionally, Mayor Richardson proclaimed the week of November 4-11, 2025, as a time to honor the service and sacrifice of individuals in uniform transitioning from active service. The proclamation is part of Operation Green Light for Veterans – a nationwide initiative that encourages communities to show visible support for veterans.

In observance of this effort, the Indianola City Council encourages all residents and businesses to display a green light in a window of their home or workplace from November 4-11.

Next Council Meeting

The Council will next meet for a study session at 6 p.m. on Monday November 10. The study session is open to the public and will be held in the Council Chambers at Indianola City Hall, located at 110 N 1st Street, Indianola, IA 50125. A livestream will be available through the City of Indianola's YouTube channel.

The next regular Council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, November 17.
