ORIGINAL POST (5:56 p.m. Monday, August 4): The Indianola Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center will not be open for regular hours on Tuesday, August 5, in order to complete necessary disinfection protocols following a fecal incident on Sunday, August 3.
This process involves thorough sanitization to ensure the safety of all guests, including treating the pool with large amounts of chlorine (hyperchlorination) over several hours. The pH levels of the water must also return to safe levels before reopening.
As a reminder, the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals advises all aquatic center guests to avoid entering the pool if you have had any gastrointestinal symptoms in the past two weeks or if you have an infectious or communicable disease.
At this time, we are hopeful the water will be ready Tuesday evening for the youth and adult standup paddleboard classes. Participants will be updated on the class status by 3 p.m. Tuesday. We will also continue to provide status updates on our website and social media channels regarding the facility reopening to the public.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
