The City of Indianola is developing a citywide truck route plan to better manage truck traffic, reduce neighborhood impacts and support local business access.

Staff hosted a public open house on Tuesday, August 5, at the Indianola Activity Center and presented the proposed plan to gather public input from residents, business owners and interested community members.

The proposed plan and ordinance designates specific streets for commercial vehicles exceeding 12,000 pounds, with the goal of preserving roadway infrastructure, protecting residential neighborhoods and improving traffic safety.

Next Steps in Process

During the recent open house, staff received comments and questions from attendees. These are currently being reviewed to ensure community concerns and suggestions are thoroughly considered.

The Indianola City Council will hold a first reading of the proposed ordinance at its regular meeting on Monday, September 15. Subsequent readings are planned for October, allowing ample time for further discussion and public input.
