The City of Indianola is thrilled to announce the remarkable achievement of its Finance Director, Andrew Lent, who has successfully earned the prestigious Certified Public Finance Officers (CPFO) credential from the Government Finance Officers Association.
The CPFO program is designed to prepare individuals for leadership positions in state and local governments by enhancing fundamental skills and increasing knowledge of best practices and standards in public finance. This credential reflects Lent's dedication to excellence in his industry and his ongoing commitment to serving the citizens of Indianola.
"It was an exhausting but rewarding couple of years to get this accomplished," Lent said. "I was able to get it done well within the five-year time constraint thanks to the overwhelming support of my coworkers, friends and especially my family."
The CPFO program consists of seven rigorous exams that verify knowledge in the major disciplines of government finance, including accounting and financial reporting, compensation and benefits, debt management, planning and budgeting, treasury and investment management, procurement and risk management. According to the Government Finance Officers Association, more than 800 individuals to date have earned the CPFO designation.
Lent has worked for the City of Indianola since April 2018. With over 25 years of experience in local government, he has previously served in administrator roles in the Iowa cities of Carlisle, Mitchellville and Vinton prior to joining Indianola. He is a member of the Government Finance Officers Association, as required to participate in the CPFO program. Lent recently helped the City of Indianola receive its seventh straight Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association for its Fiscal Year 24 budget.
"Andrew's remarkable accomplishment in earning the CPFO credential exemplifies the professional development and expertise that the City of Indianola deeply values," said City Manager Benjamin Reeves. "His journey to master the intricacies of public finance through this program is a testament that reinforces our dedication to providing the highest quality of services to our taxpayers with the utmost responsibility and transparency."
Please join us in extending congratulations to Lent on this outstanding achievement. For more information about the CPFO designation and program, please visit www.gfoa.org/cpfo.
