Citizens Police Academy
An active learning opportunity for the citizens of Indianola, Iowa. The Indianola Citizens Police Academy is seeking 12 Indianola residents who have a sincere commitment, motivation and interest in learning about the operations of the Indianola Police Department. There is no cost to participate, only your commitment to two, four- hour sessions over a two- week period. Citizens will learn patrol techniques, implicit bias training, firearms instruction, investigations, response to resistance, defense tactics, and force continuum.
The success of a community is determined by the effectiveness of its leaders and informed citizenry. The goal of the Indianola Citizens Police Academy is to establish an educational forum that will provide Indianola residents with the knowledge of the inner workings of your Police Department. Through this forum, the Indianola Citizens Police Academy seeks to:
- Heighten awareness and understanding of the different assignments within the Police Department through a hands-on learning experience.
- Empower Indianola residents with knowledge of the role the Indianola Police Department has in the community. In turn, these residents will be more informed and share their knowledge with other community members.
All applicants must be 21 years old and older. A background check and screening committee will review applications. The academy begins October 12, 2021. The application deadline is October 1, 2021.
