  1. Mighty Minnows Swim Instruction

    You’re never too young to have fun in the water. Parents will teach their child water orientation and beginning swim skills through games and activities with the aid of the instructor. Parents may also opt to have their 4-5 year old children attend a class without parents. Children must wear swim diapers if not yet toilet trained

  2. Yoga in the Park

    Relax and invigorate at the same time as our volunteer instructor leads you through exercises in the park! Improve your flexibility, balance, and strength in a unique setting. Calm your mind and reduce stress as you work through the exercises amidst the fresh air, blooming flowers, and peaceful setting. Instructors will vary each week to provide variety. All you need is your own mat, towel, and water bottle.

  3. Mercy One Helicopter Meet & Greet

    July 21, 2018, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM @ Simpson College Soccer Field, just a short walk up the trail from Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center parking lot.

    Held in conjunction with Mayor's Night Out! Come to MNO early to meet the crew of the Mercy One Helicopter on the Simpson College Soccer Field, just a short walk up the trail from the VMAC parking lot. The crew will land, show the aircraft and answer questions from the public. This is an opportunity to see the life saving procedures performed by the flight crew en route to the hospital when time is of the essence. Mercy Emergency Medical Services air and ground units play an integral role in assisting the Indianola Fire and Police Departments in protecting our community.

  11. Beginning Runner's Group

    A FREE running group for learning the basics of training and racing for all levels of runners. We run rain or shine, cold or heat - but we will wait for a storm to pass. All paces welcome, including walkers. If there is lightning, we will not run. Prior to each run, there will be a 10 minute presentation great for those learning the sport. Have fun, meet other runners, and learn the basics of running while preparing for any of the many area races such as the Loop the Lake, Dam to Dam, Living History Farms & more.

  21. Hot Air Balloon Camp

    July 30, 2018, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM @ National Balloon Classic Field and Indianola YMCA

    Held during the 2018 National Balloon Classic in Indianola, participants will learn the history of ballooning, the science of how balloons operate, and other important factors in piloting a balloon. Hands-on activities and learning with licensed balloon pilots, experienced crew members, and staff from the National Balloon Museum. Camp activities will take place at the Balloon Field from 9:00am - Noon each day. A visit to the balloon museum is included. Transportation provided from the Balloon Field to the YMCA midday for more balloon-themed and recreational activities in the afternoon. Parents may pick up students at the Y at 4:00pm or before. Bring a daily sack lunch, swim suit and towel. Each participant will receive a 2018 camp T-shirt and two passes to an evening at the National Balloon Classic. All activities at the Balloon Field will be subject to weather conditions. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and closed toe shoes (no flip flops or sandals).
