As the 2018 Clinton Avenue project nears completion, the City of Indianola Streets Department has installed new signs today on the north side of The Helping Hand. Although commonly seen in the East Village and other metro communities, these signs are the first of their kind in the City of Indianola. This off-street parking is now Back In Diagonal parking. Back In Diagonal parking has multiple benefits including creation of additional parking spaces, drivers not backing out into traffic, better driver visibility when leaving, shorter time of traffic interruption while parking operation occurs, safer loading of materials and vehicle occupants, and it is easier to diagonal park versus parallel parking.
The procedure for Diagonal Back In Parking is simple:
1. Signal to indicate the upcoming movement
2. Pull past the parking stall and stop
3. Reverse into the parking stall at a 45-degree angle
Be alert, be safe, and embrace the change. You will be safer because of it.
