Fire Chief's Message
The Indianola Fire Department is a combination department. In its mission the department provides fire and emergency medical services to all citizens and visitors of Indianola. The department’s fire district encompasses 125 square miles located centrally in Warren County, including the City of Indianola. As the authority having jurisdiction the department sets the service level
As a combination department, its members are comprised of career/full-time, part-time and paid-on-call employees. The department’s members provide emergency services 24-hours/ 7-days a week to all citizens and visitors in the fire district. The department also responds to mutual aid request from other jurisdictions.
The emergency medical service, is authorized by the State of Iowa Public Health Department (BETS), in providing paramedic level care. Warren County does not host a local hospital, so an emphasis is put on the emergency medical service provided by this department. The needs of the community are met through the quality of care coming from within the fire department. The members of the department are held to the highest standard in knowledge and personal interaction when providing emergency services to patients and community members.
Safety Programs presented by department members, promote safe environments to different demographics. These programs are key components to the department’s mission and the community. One of the programs the department has implemented is “Remembering When”: A Fire and Fall Prevention Program for Older Adults, which was developed by National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help older adults live safely at home for as long as possible.
Interaction with the community’s schools and involvement in community special events provide the opportunity to promote and communicate safety programs. The department offers training to civilians and businesses in the operations of hand-held fire extinguishers, as another service feature delivered to the community.
