Building Regulations

Homeowners and contractors are advised to review building regulations before beginning a project. If you have any questions, contact the building official at 515-961-9430.
  1. Building Permit

    A Building Permit is required to erect, construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve, remove, convert or demolish any building or structure.

  2. Certificate of Occupancy

    A Certificate of Occupancy is required to use or occupy any building or premise for which a Building Permit has been issued.

  4. Inspections

    Inspections by the city are required throughout the construction process.

  5. Mechanical Permit

    A Mechanical Permit is required to install, alter, repair, replace or remodel any mechanical system, as established by the City Code.

  1. Moving / Demolition Permit

    A Moving / Demolition Permit is required to demolish a building or portion thereof or to move a building from 1 location to another across private or public property within the city limits.

  2. Plantings in Street Parking Permit

    A permit is required for any plantings, except flowers, in the street parking area.

  3. Plumbing Permit

    A Plumbing Permit is required to install, alter, repair, replace or remodel any plumbing system as established by the City Code.

  4. Sign Permit

    A Sign Permit is required to install, alter, repair, replace or relocate any advertising sign as established by the City Code.

  5. Swimming Pool Permit

    A Swimming Pool Permit is required for the installation of any above-ground or below-ground pool with a capacity of more than 5,000 gallons.
