Boards & Commissions

The City of Indianola has established numerous boards and commissions to advise the City Council.

Board and commission members must be Indianola Residents and applicants are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Terms for the boards and commissions vary and are established by Municipal Code.

The City is currently actively pursuing a gender balance to all boards and commissions while maintaing a high level of expertise in all areas. You may view current Board and Commission Members as well as request consideration for any current open positions below.

Vacant Positions
To be considered for any board or commission we ask that you either fill out the Boards and Commissions Application and return it to City Hall or call 515-961-9410 and ask that your name be included for further consideration.

  1. Board of Adjustment

    Reviews applications for variance. Rules on special uses and decides appeals of administrative decisions.

  2. Civil Service Commission

  3. IMU Board of Trustees

    This board manages and controls the city's waterworks and electric, light, and power plant; and also provide telecommunication services.

  4. Library Board of Trustees

    This board has charge, control, and supervision of the Library, its appurtenances, fixtures and rooms, and personnel.

  5. Mayor's Youth Council

    Established in January of 2011, the Indianola Mayor's Youth Council provides Indianola's youth with an active role in addressing issues in our community.

  6. Parks & Recreation Commission

    The commission advises City Council on the needed facilities to provide open spaces such as parks, playgrounds, and community facilities for other forms of recreation.

  7. Planning & Zoning Commission

    This group acts in matters that pertain to the development of the overall city plan.

  8. Senior Center Board

  9. Tree Committee

    Members of this committee volunteer their time to help out with planting projects and education workshops within the Indianola Community.

  10. Veteran's Memorial Building Commission

    This commission is made up of honorably discharged veterans who manage and control the Veteran's Memorial Aquatic Center.
